1 Thessalonians 5:17 “pray continually”
As we creep (SLOWLY!) past the half way mark in this time of prayer and fasting many of us are starting to experience breakthrough and victory from major obstacles in our lives (if not, keep pressing in. It will come!). There is no doubt that these break throughs can be attributed to both prayer and fasting and the power that comes with it. Prayer is a source of great power available to us just as James 5 :16 says “the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results”.
When we look at the life of Jesus it becomes very clear the important role that prayer played in his life. In Mark 1 we see Jesus rising early to go pray in solitude and again in Luke 6 Jesus goes to a mountainside to spend the night in prayer. Jesus praying not only gives us an example to learn from but also shows us that the even the Son of God needed to be connected to God through prayer. If prayer was that important to Jesus, What importance should it have in our lives? Setting aside daily time with God to cast our cares upon him is crucial to walking in the victory he has for us. Think about the power in this scripture: Mark 11 :24 “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours”. This assures us that we can rely on God for our strength, our comfort, our guidance along with so much more because without Him we are nothing but with Him we can conquer anything!
Throughout this time one thing that has been resounding in my spirit daily is the thought that these major breakthroughs aren’t just reserved for 21 days in the year. They can be ours daily by continuing to live a lifestyle of fervent daily prayer even after this 21-day period ends. During the rest of this time I encourage you to look at what has been working for your prayer life and then take the time to develop a strategy to continue it in your daily life after the fast. Constant fellowship with God leads to a victorious Christian life!
